Bollinger Co MO [Dolle Mill ] In 1800 George Grounds took up the Spanish Land Grant 802. He died early and Christian Seabaugh, his son-in-law acquired it. In 1818 Christian sold the land to Matthias Bollinger. According to family tradition the millstones were then ordered from France. The mill dam on the Whitewater was built at the northwestern edge of the grant where it still stands. A flume was built be slave labor at an angle down to the eastern edge of this land. The mill was finished about 1828. The original wheel was an overshot wheel. Much later a water turbine ran the mill machinery. After running past the mill the flume ran across Grant 228 to carry the water back to the Whitewater. This is the three and twenty/one hundredth acres showing in the Dolle-Bollinger mill deed made when Moses Bollinger died and his estate was settled. Moses had bought this from Matthias according to deeds at Jackson, Missouri, in 1835. Moses died August 8, 1854. His log house was just west of the mill in the bottom land. It was called the mansion house. After Moses died in 1854, the heirs could not agree so the mill was sold at sheriff's sale to John H. Dolle whose family kept it until they sold half to William Heitman in 1899. Elmer Bollinger returned the mill to its original family in 1936. He reinforced the concrete, restored the siding, retaining the hand hewn and pegged beams and woodwork. At this time the property is still owned by the descendants of Elmer Bollinger. NOTE: The mill is located on Whitewater Creek in northern Bollinger County off of blacktop road EE. This account of the Dolle Mill was taken from the book "Bollinger Connections".
